This is a genus of a cephalopod. It is straght shelled. Research on internal structures showed that these actually belonged to a number of groups, even different orders. the name Orthoceras is used only to refer to the type species. They comes from North Africa, Marocco, the Middle Ordovician of Estonia, Lithuania, USSR and Sweden, and perhaps a few related species.
